Twenty-one real orders, then the salon went quiet.

Harmonia is a men's salon in El-Arish, Egypt. We built its POS, booking and payroll for free, in exchange for this case study. Between 14 July and 5 August 2026 the shop rang 21 paid orders through it, worth EGP 5,091. It has not been used since 5 August, so this page is written in the past tense.

2026, in four dates

How the pilot actually went.

  1. 4 Jun

The owner signed in and set the shop up remotely, with no on-site install.

  2. 14 Jul

Payroll with three pay systems and the salon's real 2025 price list went live. The first counted paid order was rung the same day.

  3. 2 Aug

The owner added two more barbers himself through the staff editor, after a permissions fix we shipped for it.

  4. 5 Aug

Last activity. The salon has not used the system since; it is still deployed.

The brief

A men's salon pays its barbers in different ways: some on a base plus commission, some on a salary with a target, some on commission alone. It sells packages as well as single services, takes Vodafone Cash at the counter, and works in Arabic from the first screen.

Off-the-shelf POS tools handle one of those well and the rest with a spreadsheet on the side. The ask was one system the owner could run without calling a developer.

What we built
  • An Arabic-first, right-to-left POS for the counter
  • Online booking and a public contact page the owner could edit himself
  • Payroll with three pay systems chosen per barber: base plus commission, salary plus a target bonus, or commission only
  • Commission fixed on every order line in the database, so a later rule change never rewrites past pay
  • The salon's real 2025 price list: 33 services in 11 categories, package bundles included
  • Day-end settlement that counts Vodafone Cash alongside cash
What we learned

Three things we do differently now.

A shop finds what testing misses.

The owner set up his own barbers and hit a permissions bug in the staff editor that had sat unnoticed for about three months. Once it was fixed, he set his barbers up through it himself. Real use is the test; everything before it is rehearsal.

Reply speed is part of the product.

A quick answer matters as much as the fix, so we now track the time to a human reply on every lead and booking that reaches us.

A pilot needs a review date.

Setting a review date at the start gives both sides a clear moment to decide what comes next, instead of leaving the question open.

Straight answers

What people ask about this one.

No. The salon last used it on 5 August 2026. The software is still deployed and nobody has switched it off, but we call this a past pilot because that is what it is.
